All the News that Fits.

In the Roman Catholic Universe in Atlanta, there is The Georgia Bulletin as the purveyor of news in the Archdiocese.  The ex-officio publisher of that journalistic enterprise is the Archbishop, a post currently held by Wilton Daniel Gregory.  Archbishop Gregory, as has often been pointed out here, has been scandalously silent concerning the treachery that is going on at the Catholic University of Notre Dame.

Through his mouthpiece, he has attempted to convince his flock that he has a policy of "no comment" on matters outside his archdiocese.  As has also been documented here, that position is patently false.  In addition to the many examples to the contrary on his own website, Archbishop Gregory has addressed numerous issues that were not even on this continent.

Well just last week, one erudite Atlantan offered his take on the Notre Dame scandal, choosing to indict Mary Ann Glendon who had declined a prestigious honor rather than send a mixed message by appearing on the same stage with President Obama.  According to the writer:

So Mary Ann Glendon decides to embarrass the great University of Notre Dame by turning down the Laetare Medal (The Georgia Bulletin, April 30) because the university plans to honor Barack Obama. Mary Ann Glendon, a Bush appointee and supporter, says the decision is based on moral grounds and the fundamental principles of justice. I would respect the decision if she also protested George Bush’s and the Republican position on the war in Iraq, capital punishment and insensitivity to the poor. It is apparent the decision to turn down the medal is more about politics than morality and adds nothing to the dialogue on difficult choices other than the arrogance of I’m right, you’re wrong . . .

Dan Bochniak

Since I also possess word processing software, I offer the following response:

Editor, The Georgia Bulletin

On May 7th a letter to the editor by Dan Bochniak of Marietta was critical of Mary Ann Glendon. Ms. Glendon has declined to accept a prestigious award from Notre Dame because President Obama is giving the commencement address and receiving an honorary degree. Seems all this dust up grows from the fact that Obama has become the most zealous abortion proponent on the planet. Not content to kill children in his own country of Kenya, President Obama has aggressively entrenched child killing in this country and exported it to the four corners of the globe as well. Mr. Bochniak decries Ms. Glendon's “insensitivity to the poor,” yet says nothing of the global genocide waged by our own President. Nothing quite conveys “insensitivity” like scraping the unborn child out of a poor woman's womb. Mr. Bochniak, it isn't about adding “to the dialogue on difficult choices.” It's about not participating in treachery.

One has to wonder whether “Dan Bochniak” is just the pen name for Archbishop Gregory, who has been missing in action on this scandal. In any event, with Catholics like this, who needs Episcopalians?

Michael R. Hirsh
In the spirit of American Roman Catholicism, I'll bet - not on Bingo, mind you - but I'll bet five bucks the Bulletin won't publish my letter.

Any takers?

    Michael,

You are such a hater. Just get with the program. Abortion is love.
Adoption is murder. Each child creates a huge carbon footprint that is killing the planet. Save the planet! Obviously, somebody wasn’t listening in class! What kind of law school did you go to anyway!?

By gum, Stevie old boy, you've nailed it.  I am a hater.  God and me have a lot in common.  You may recall from your thorough reading of Proverbs (chapter 6) that He hates hands that shed innocent blood.  King David in the Psalms (you find it!) asked God to help him hate God's enemies with a "holy hatred."

      So thanks!

And you are two for two - I tried not to pay too much attention in school.  It made my head hurt.  And I'm under a restraining order from my law school.  They didn't want me to ever mentioned that I actually went there.  So I can't tell you where . . . but I can tell you that I was voted most likely to come back and sue the university.
