RE: Will you stop this treachery?

Dear Archbishop Gregory:

During the election you were generally silent concerning the qualifications of now President Obama. After the election, you heralded his win as a source of hope and even opined that it might open the door for a black pontiff. I did not see one time where you pointed out his unabashed support for eugenics and unrestrained abortion. As a result, approximately one half of those that identified themselves as Catholic voted for him. Episcopal silence led many to conclude that voting for this man had no impact on their soul. Indeed, it appears that many were sheep without a shepherd.

While still in his Administration’s infancy, this President has undone every minuscule gain that has been made in the war against abortion. He has confessed that he would kill his own grandchildren rather than cause his “daughters to be punished with a baby.” He has clearly told the world what he intended to do. So we should not be too surprised when he delivers.

What should surprise us – indeed should scandalize us – is that those who swear allegiance to the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church would have ushered him into office. What should surprise us – and indeed scandalize us – is that the most virulent anti-life President would be invited to speak at one of the most prestigious Catholic universities in the country if not in the world. His invitation is an offense against God, Our Lady, the Founders of Notre Dame, and is an affront to the innocent blood of babies that cries from the ground for justice.

Please, Archbishop Gregory, for the sake of the Church, for the sake of the millions of faithful Catholics who are looking to you for leadership, for the sake of the millions of unborn that President Obama is sentencing to death, use your position, your power, your influence to prevent President Obama from speaking at Notre Dame and have Father Jenkins removed as the President of Notre Dame.

You are among the most influential Bishops in America that can cause this to happen.  If nothing else, please join you voice to the voices of other bishops and priests who have called for this treachery to be stopped.

Very truly yours,

Michael R. Hirsh

We must stand together and protest for the unborn's civil rights to life. Our Archbishop is bucking to be a Cardinal. There is nothing wrong with voicing our opinions that are based on our Catholic faith. If he maintains his position of jockeying for the President who is in support of abortion then we must stop his leadership in the Church, otherwise we have no Church. Give to ceasar what is ceasar's; the Church becomes a proxy of the Government. Our Archbishop is not leading; he is posturing.

Our Archbishop actually said that Obama's election was a great step in humanity. I guess the killing of the unborn doesn't fit the definition of "humanity." lets rally at the Archbishop's residence. I hear the mansion is nice.

Thank you, Michael, for so eloquently saying what our putative archbishop should but fails to state. It pains me to see day after day go by without comment from him on the tragedy that is Notre Dame’s invitation to President Obama. I was absolute astonished when Archbishop Gregory decided to remain mute during this last campaign season because I knew in my heart his silence gave emotional, if not moral, cover to those lost souls who mistakenly believed you can be Catholic and pro-death. His utter, unconscionable and almost unforgiveable absence of leadership this last fall directly led, I believe, to the election of the most genocidal president this nation has ever installed in the office.
I grew up without any faith or religious influence. This absence of moral and spiritual direction led me to make serious errors of judgment, including premarital sex, and paying for and supporting a former girlfriend’s choice to seek an abortion. That decision has haunted me for over 20 years. I am convinced that had I known and taken advantage of the spiritual guidance available to me, I would have made a better decision; but my youthful ignorance of both life and a love of Jesus led me to go astray. That is why I so strongly fault Archbishop Gregory: his lack of leadership is leading his sheep astray. Archbishop Gregory’s silence over Notre Dame’s error is simply the penultimate example of his grossly deficient leadership, which will unfortunately lead to the death of many more of the weakest and most vulnerable members of our society: unborn children.
I made a terrible decision in 1986. I did so out of ignorance of faith and a lack of appreciation for the love and forgiveness Jesus offered me. I did so because I didn’t know where to turn for the appropriate guidance and support. I’m quite certain there are many others in this archdiocese that face the same quandary I did 23 years ago. Unfortunately, they, too, cannot turn to their archbishop for support and guidance on the life matter, not because they don’t know he’s there for them, but because he chooses not to be there for them.
